The Ural State Forest Engineering University is one of the leading educational institutions in the system of forestry education in Russia. It was founded in 1930.During its history the University developed from institute to university and trained more than 50 000 specialists.

The University provides professional training of bachelor studies, master studies, specialists in the wide range of technical, humanitarian and economical study programs for enterprises of chemical–forestry, environmental protection and rational use of natural resources and transportation complexes. USFEU is situated in Ekaterinburg, the industrial scientific and cultural center of the Ural Federal Okrug.

STRUCTURE

• 9 faculties: Forestry, Logging, Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Woodworking, Engineering Ecology, Economics and Management, Human Sciences, Correspondence, Pre-Higher and Additional Education;
• Three institutes (Autoroad, Scientific Research Institute of Ecological Toxicology, Quality of Life Institute);
• The university’s branches in:
• Ozersk (Chelyabinsk region), Sovetsky (Tuymen region), Kudymkar (the Perm land);

• The Ural Educational and Experimental Multiple-Purpose Forestry;
• The Ural Forest Techno Park.

The Ural Forest Techno Park develops from the year 2007 on the base of the Ural Educational and Experimental Multiple-Purpose Forestry. The  Ural Forest Techno Park as the base for innovation education is the widening of technological possibilities of forest enterprises on the innovation base, introduction of effective technologies, training and retraining of specialists for innovation industrial forest enterprises of the Ural region.

The educational process is fulfilled by 41 departments where more than 50 professors, doctors of sciences, 280 principal lecturers and candidates of sciences work including 21 academicians of the academies of engineering, natural and ecological sciences

The university has a state license to train master studies, bachelor studies and specialists on 33 programs.

Forms of education are: full-time, part      time (evening) and correspondence. There are about 10 000 students trained at the university, about 5 000 of them are full-time students.

Students have educational, technological and pre-diploma practice in various institutions and enterprises according to their curricula.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The students’ campus is near the study buildings and includes 9 buildings for 2 500 students. Hostel type rooms with extra accommodation facilities are available as well.

Besides there is everything necessary  for everyday life and other activities: University Sport Center, the Palace of Culture, the Sports-and-health camp on the bank of the Lake Peschanoye in the environs of Ekaterinburg and the Sanatorium on the campus territory, a café and two modern canteens.

SCIENCE

The USFEU is a well-known center for training post-graduate students and researchers in 19  scientific specialties.

Fundamental and applied research works are carried in wide spectrum of silvicultural and technical problems. The University publishes monographs, student text-books, educational supplies and methodical materials  in annual amount of 450 printer’s sheet.

INTERNATIONAL COOPERATION

The University is the member of the International Union of Forest Research Organizations (IUFRO), International Association  INTAS, International Center of Forestry and  Forest Industries (ICFFI), National Council of Volunteers of Forest Certification in Russia, Association of Engineering Education in Russia, Association “Woodworking Machinery“.

The University has wide external contacts with international high schools and research institutions of Switzerland, Germany, Sweden, Finland, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Italy, China and Hungary.

The University has constant steady relations with the Swiss Federal Research Institute WSL (Birmensdorf, Switzerland), Mendel University of Agriculture and Forestry in Brno (Czech Republic) and many others.

The University graduates work not only in the Ural Federal Okrug but also in Russia and abroad.  The ministers, government officials, famous scientists, directors and top-managers of large joint-stock companies and enterprises are among them.
